Edwin Black – Our Candidate for Southport

Hesketh Bank resident, Edwin Black, has been selected by local Green Party members to be their candidate in the enlarged Southport constituency at the next General Election.

In his introductory message to local voters, Edwin said:
My name is Edwin Black and I am asking for your vote to represent the people of Southport and the Northern Parishes of West Lancashire in Parliament to give voters the opportunity of a genuine alternative to the same old politics that got us here.
I am 35 years old and a proud husband and father with a young child. My family and I reside in Hesketh Bank, within the new Southport constituency borders, and I am actively involved in the community, including volunteering with the Scout Association in Tarleton, where I have the privilege of connecting with families from a wide range of backgrounds.
I am driven by a profound belief in the need for urgent and transformative change in our political landscape. Our country, especially areas like ours, deserves leadership that prioritises the well-being of both people and the environment over the fetishisation of unsustainable growth and fabricated, intentionally divisive culture wars.
For over a decade, our public services have faced a relentless assault. It is unacceptable that basic necessities have been squandered by successive governments and councils funded by those that benefit from privatisation and increasing unequal access.
I am committed to restoring and enhancing these vital services by fighting to reclaim essential services from privatisation and investing in sustainable green initiatives that create genuine, permanent, local jobs.
The cost-of-living crisis that has engulfed our nation has hit many of us hard and many of those that are struggling were in that position long before the excuse of the pandemic, yet we have a higher tax burden than ever and a class of ultra-wealthy people who have benefitted from that inequality. That money has not disappeared, it has simply gone into fewer pockets and has been put in off-shore tax havens or spent gathering assets into still fewer hands, driving property prices to levels out of the reach of working people. That has to end and the tax burden shifted on to those who have profited as we have lost out.
Together, let us seize this opportunity to build a fairer, greener future for Southport, the Northern Parishes of West Lancashire, and our nation as a whole. If you vote for me you can be confident I will represent you with integrity, passion and respect for all.
